Environment
We care about the environment
01
Climate
Haiti is highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, including rising temperatures, stronger hurricanes, and unpredictable rainfall. These changes threaten food security, water resources, and livelihoods, especially in rural areas. Deforestation and poor infrastructure worsen the effects, making communities more exposed to floods and landslides. Addressing climate challenges in Haiti requires urgent action through reforestation, sustainable farming, and disaster preparedness.
To promote renewable energy, Valento Family has supported the installation and maintenance of solar systems in key community locations, including schools and children’s centers. By replacing unreliable and polluting diesel generators with solar panels, these facilities now have access to cleaner, more consistent electricity. This initiative not only reduces harmful emissions but also cuts energy costs, allowing more resources to be directed toward education and child welfare. Valento Family continues to advocate for clean energy solutions that benefit both people and the environment.
02
Deforestation
Deforestation is a major environmental issue in Haiti, with over 90% of the country’s forests lost due to charcoal production, farming, and lack of alternative energy sources. This widespread tree loss has led to soil erosion, reduced agricultural productivity, and increased vulnerability to floods and landslides. Reforestation and promoting sustainable land use are critical steps toward restoring Haiti’s environment and protecting communities.
Deforestation has had serious consequences in Haiti, and Valento Family is taking action by supporting tree planting and promoting sustainable land use. The organization works with local farmers and youth groups to plant native trees, prevent soil erosion, and restore green spaces. In addition, they encourage eco-friendly practices like organic gardening and the use of clean cooking alternatives. These projects not only improve the environment but also create jobs and awareness, helping build a more resilient and self-sufficient community.
03
Pollution
Pollution in Haiti, especially in urban areas, is a growing concern due to poor waste management, lack of sanitation infrastructure, and water contamination. Piles of uncollected garbage and polluted rivers pose serious health risks and harm the environment. Addressing pollution in Haiti requires better waste disposal systems, public awareness, and stronger environmental policies to protect both people and nature.
In response to widespread waste issues in Croix-des-Bouquets, Valento Family has initiated local cleanup campaigns and waste education programs. These efforts include organizing regular trash collection, setting up community bins, and teaching residents how to properly sort and dispose of waste. By addressing the root causes of pollution, such as illegal dumping and poor sanitation, the organization helps protect public health and prevent the contamination of local rivers and streets. Long-term plans aim to introduce community-based recycling and composting systems.
04
Sustainability
Sustainability in Haiti is essential for long-term development, as the country faces ongoing environmental and economic challenges. Promoting renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and responsible resource use can help reduce poverty and protect natural ecosystems. By investing in sustainable practices, Haiti can build a more resilient future for its people and environment.
